Have You Given Up on Your Dreams?
Remember growing up all the dreams you had? The things you wanted to be, the places you wanted to visit, the experiences that were still waiting ahead for you to explore? I realized a few years back that I didn’t really daydream or focus on my personal dreams anymore…like ever. I couldn’t remember the last time I thought about something I wanted to achieve, experience, learn or visit.

Maybe I just slipped into the mindset that my kids and husbands dreams were all that mattered. With my kids, I found much satisfaction in helping them pursue their dreams of what sport they wanted to do, or what instrument they wanted to play, what performance they wanted to be in or pursuing their next “big dream”. Then there was my husbands career, I enjoyed encouraging and supporting him as he pursued his next education goal or his next step up the ladder. I think I just got so wrapped up in encouraging and helping them that I forgot to remember my dreams or the things I liked to do.
TIME FOR A MINDSET SHIFT
Now that girls have graduated homeschooling I find that I’m at a place in my life with much more time on my hands. All the things that I was doing, the roles that consumed my life, the ones I loved so much have changed or went into a different direction. The days are still hectic and busy as I try to be available for each of them but there is definitely a “gap” that wasn’t there before. Life has a funny way of doing that to us from time to time. It would be easy to get stuck in a unhealthy place but who would that serve? It would be easy to lose my purpose as I lose what felt “right” and “purposeful”. But again, who would that benefit? I find myself realizing that you never need to stop dreaming. It’s a lie that you ever get too old to dream. So I want to be a flight attendant – what keeps me from being a flight attendant? I want to start a blog – what keeps me from starting a blog? I want to start my own business – what keeps me from doing that? The same passion I had at 18, 25, 32 years old is still in me and it is still in you! If we are still breathing then there is still something we are to pursue.
TAKE TIME TO DREAM AGAIN
I have decided to really take some time and refocus on what my dreams are and who I personally am. Can I encourage you to do the same thing? A fun way to tap into your self and really think about who you are is to do some of the fun personality test. I do not think a personality test should in any way define who you are. We are all uniquely and individually created. If God made each and every snowflake look totally different then you need to realize that you don’t fall into any exact box or mold of anyone else. However, the questions do help you to think deeper about what drives you and energizes you and who you really are.

NEVER STOP DREAMING
So my encouragement to you today is never stop dreaming. You are never too old, never too busy. You do not always have to take the back burner. Yeah, for a while you may have to in order to help someone else pursue their dream. But don’t get lost in that and NEVER.STOP.DREAMING! Go chase your dreams! God may be waiting to reveal something awesome to you! He does that sort of thing often.
